Community Health Charities of Nebraska (CHC-NE) and the United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County are pleased to report that the collaborative agreement between the two organizations, which began in 2008, continues to be an unqualified success.
CHC-NE and the 18 member health agencies we represent participate as full campaign partners in the United Way fundraising drive in workplaces throughout Lincoln and Lancaster County. Gifts to the United Way Fund directly benefit our health agencies, just as they help support the human services agencies in the United Way federation. CHC-NE receives a guaranteed portion of the United Way Campaign.
For donors who still wish to support individual charities, there is an area on the pledge form that allows donors to designate gifts to specific agencies; however, we hope donors see the benefit in gifting to the United Way Fund since that donation now impacts an even broader set of our community needs.
CHC-NE provides all organizations, including companies and government offices, the opportunity to participate in workplace giving campaigns. This makes it possible for employees to contribute to their favorite Nebraska health charities conveniently and efficiently through payroll deduction. By contributing time and leadership through involvement in CHC-NE’s volunteer boards of directors and community councils, business leaders further demonstrate a commitment to good corporate citizenship and enhance their relationships with their communities.
Donors can be confident they are supporting well recognized and highly reputable, established agencies when they donate to CHC-NE through the United Way. CHC-NE’s membership standards include such criteria as providing statewide programs and services, having a broad base of volunteers, executing an effective system of fundraising, and adhering to strict financial accountability, public reporting and program requirements. Contributors can also be certain their dollars are put to effective use. CHC-NE dollars support charity research, community education, and client programs and services. In addition, CHC-NE collaborates with its member charities to promote public awareness through education and outreach activities.
CHC-NE funding provides its member charities with a primary source of income that allows them to optimize staff and volunteer resources. Due to the nature of the workplace, payroll deduction frequently can only be accessed through a federation of charities, not individual charities. CHC-NE provides access to this effective and cost-efficient fundraising method. In addition to receiving financial benefits, member charities use CHC-NE as a resource for networking and building community, corporate and governmental relationships; recruiting volunteers; and initiating a myriad of public education opportunities.
Community Health Charities of Nebraska (formerly CHAD) celebrates nearly four decades of raising funds for Nebraska’s health charities. Today, CHC-NE is a nationally recognized community organization, serving as a model of collaboration with member agencies and the individuals we serve. Compared with other combined health appeals, CHC-NE is ranked first in the nation for per capita dollars distributed to its member charities. CHC-NE also is a member of Community Health Charities of America, a partnership of 48 state affiliate offices nationwide that have joined together to raise workplace contributions for member charities.
Whether supporting research, patient and community education, or programs and services, CHC-NE funding benefits Nebraskans right here in Lincoln and Lancaster County. Health issues can affect any family, and all Nebraskans will be ultimately served by a CHC-NE member agency at some point in their lives. CHC-NE’s many partners – employee donors, businesses, Nebraska communities, member health charities and volunteers – all make it possible for CHC-NE to fulfill its mission: improving lives by raising funds for Nebraska’s health charities through workplace giving.
